![]() ![]() You have incredible, nearly perfect empathy but 99% of the time you're using it to be the world's most mediocre detective. underwhelming character writing in a setting that has such interesting potential for it you get to see how sacred a happy and healthy childbirth is in Eora and how horrible the new reality is in comparison.Ģ. it's a breath of fresh air because it's the game FINALLY giving you a window into the tragedy of the hollowborn. her cryptic and detached attitude actually works for the character because of the tenderness in her story. The grieving mother is a fantastic exception to this, and i think she's an incredible party member with a criminally small part to play in the overall game. I think the overwhelming pessimism makes it melodramatic and cheap. this doesn't make the writing more thoughtful, more objective, or more mature. there is no tenderness anywhere despite the core conflict revolving around people losing their children. it's suffocating.Įveryone is either distant and cryptic, or glib and cynical, or just cruel. This game is overwhelmingly cynical and nihilistic. if you like heady, philosophical writing there's a lot of neat stuff here This was a frustrating game to play because it had enough potential to keep me playing until the end, but it just hit me with disappointment after disappointment.Ģ. Everything in the game is seemingly good, but it meshes like Monster Zero Ultra and frosted flakes into a nasty, acidic, and messy slop. For those two things, I find this game to be a genuine 4/10. Front-loading tons of lore and entire books of writing on you within hours of entering the game. The second time, I was overwhelmed by how much the games storytelling is just lore dumps, just pouring all this minutia on you, giving you tons, and tons, and tons of details about stuff you absolutely don't care about because you have no reason to care yet. It was exhausting to play, and I stopped to maybe give it a shot again in the future after reading more about the games mechanics and possible ways I can minimise that sensation with specific strategies. Tons of perfectly timed pre-buffing and far too much micro-management, too many Things, All Of The Time. First time, I just got so overwhelmed by how poorly balanced and miserable the combat was, the game requires you to do all of the worst things you needed to do in Baldurs Gate 2 to handle ♥♥♥♥ like liches, etc. I remember playing this on launch, I gave it two chances. ![]()
